What Every Contractor Website Needs (Checklist)

Contractor websites win or lose the call in a few seconds. This is the checklist we build every site around.

By Scott McVey, BuiltWell Web · November 2, 2026

1. It loads fast on a phone

Most home-service visitors are on a phone, and many leave a slow site before it finishes loading. One industry roundup (Webtonic, 2026) cites 53% of visitors leaving a roofing site that takes more than 3 seconds to load. Skip heavy page builders, sliders and autoplay video.

2. A call button that never disappears

Put a "Call Now" button in a bar that stays on screen as people scroll. The same roundup reports that 87% of top-converting contractor sites have one, versus 19% of low-converting sites.

3. A short estimate form

Ask for name, phone and what they need. That's it. Shorter forms get filled out more often.

4. Your Google reviews up front

Show your star rating and a few real quotes near the top. People choosing between contractors are looking for proof.

5. Services and towns spelled out

List the specific jobs you do (panel upgrades, water heaters, roof replacement) and the towns you serve, in plain words. That is what customers type into Google.

6. The same name, address and phone everywhere

Your website, Google Business Profile and directory listings should match exactly. Mismatches confuse Google and customers.

7. Business details coded for Google

Structured data (schema) tells Google your trade, phone number and service area. Every BuiltWell Web site includes it.

8. You own the domain

Make sure the domain is registered in your name, not your web designer's.
