Google Business Profile Checklist for Contractors

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a customer sees. Here is how to set it up so it brings in calls.

Set up the basics correctly

  • Business name: your real business name only. Don't stuff keywords into it.
  • Primary category: the most specific one that fits, such as "Electrician", "Plumber" or "HVAC contractor". Add secondary categories for other work you do.
  • Service area: if you go to customers, set your service area by city or county. You can hide your home address.
  • Phone and hours: a number that gets answered, and accurate hours.
  • Website: link your own website, not Facebook.

Fill in services and description

Add each service you offer with a short description. Write a plain-English business description that says what you do and where.

Add real photos

Upload photos of your trucks, crew and finished jobs. Add new ones regularly.

Get and answer reviews

Ask every happy customer for a review, and make it easy with a direct link. Reply to every review, good or bad, politely and briefly.

Post updates

Posts about recent jobs, seasonal tune-ups or offers keep your profile active.

Keep your details consistent

Your name, phone and website should match your website and every directory listing exactly.
