How Much Does a Contractor Website Cost?

The honest answer: it depends on who builds it and what is included. Here is how the options compare.

The main options

Do it yourself with a site builder

Builders like Wix or Squarespace charge a monthly subscription. The cost is low, but you spend your own time designing, writing and setting it up for Google, and you maintain it.

A freelancer

Prices vary widely. Ask who owns the domain, who hosts the site, and what happens when you need changes later.

A marketing agency

Agencies often bundle websites with ads and monthly marketing contracts. This can make sense for larger companies with a marketing budget.

A done-for-you contractor website service

A middle ground: a specialist builds a site designed for contractors, handles hosting and updates, and charges a set build price plus a monthly fee.

What to ask before you pay anyone

  • Will the domain be registered in my name?
  • Is hosting, SSL and backups included in the monthly fee?
  • How many rounds of edits do I get?
  • Is the site set up for local Google search (titles, schema, service areas)?
  • Can I see the site before I pay the full amount?
